Australian First Day Covers

A First Day Cover is an envelope to which stamp(s) are affixed. Then a first day of issue cancel ties the stamp(s) to the cover.

Early First Day Covers Pre-1930 were usually prepared by the individual collector until private firms began to produce illustrated First Day Covers eg Wesley Cover Service, Royal, Excelsior, Parade etc.Most covers pre-1970 were addressed. In 1970 Australia Post officially produced Illustrated First Day Covers which are generally collected unaddressed.
